On Saturday, April 15th, the AIAA chapter at the University of Michigan welcomed over 150 parents, students, and volunteers to its first in-person Aerospace Day in over two years. I would like to express my special gratitude to Steve Manganelli for his invaluable support throughout the project, Steve Neu for providing feedback and flying our aircraft, John BLASKE for his expert advice on composites and structures, and Xiaofeng Liu for serving as our faculty advisor and offering guidance on aerodynamics.Īnd lastly, thank you to all of our student members at Aztec Aerospace Design for handing me 10 lbs of your phones, wallets, keys, and hydroflasks during our ground loading mission (And also for spending long hours in the lab working on our plane). This is the highest score San Diego State has achieved in nearly a decade. We placed 29th in report score, 8th place in aircraft performance score, and 11th place overall at the competition. With the conclusion of the AIAA Design/Build/Fly competition I'm excited to share the amazing success of Aztec Aerospace Design and extend my sincere appreciation to the outstanding individuals who made this achievement possible.ġ35 schools submitted proposals to be a part of the competition.
